Why Most Shops Can't Fix Servos -- And We Can

Servo motors require specialized knowledge, precision tooling, and advanced testing equipment that most motor repair shops simply don't have. Here's what sets us apart.

Precision Rewinding

Servo motors demand exact winding specifications. Our technicians replicate factory winding patterns with precision that maintains original motor characteristics.

  • Exact turn counts and wire gauges
  • Factory-spec insulation systems
  • Balanced winding impedance

Encoder & Feedback Devices

The feedback device is the brain of a servo system. We diagnose, repair, and replace encoders, resolvers, and Hall effect sensors across all major brands.

  • Encoder repair and replacement
  • Resolver testing and calibration
  • Commutation alignment verification

Advanced Test Equipment

Every repaired servo motor undergoes comprehensive bench testing before it leaves our shop. We verify electrical, mechanical, and feedback performance to factory specifications.

  • Full load and no-load testing
  • Insulation resistance verification
  • Vibration analysis and balancing

Bearing & Shaft Repair

Servo motors use high-precision bearings that can't be replaced with standard parts. We source the correct sealed, shielded, or preloaded bearings for your application.

  • Precision bearing replacement
  • Shaft inspection and reconditioning
  • Seal and brake repair

Drive Diagnostics

Sometimes the problem isn't the motor -- it's the drive. We diagnose servo drive faults and help you determine whether the motor, drive, or cabling is the root cause.

  • Fault code interpretation
  • Drive-to-motor compatibility
  • Wiring and connector inspection

Magnet Re-magnetization

Permanent magnet servo motors can lose magnetism from overheating or age. We evaluate magnet strength and re-magnetize or replace magnets as needed.

  • Magnetic field strength testing
  • Re-magnetization services
  • Rare earth magnet replacement

Servo Motors We Repair

Servo motors are the precision workhorses behind CNC machines, robotic arms, packaging lines, printing presses, and countless other automated systems. When one fails, it can shut down your entire operation.

  • CNC Machine Servos -- Spindle motors, axis drive motors, and turret motors for lathes, mills, and machining centers
  • Robotic Servo Motors -- Joint motors for industrial robots used in welding, assembly, painting, and material handling
  • Packaging & Converting -- High-speed servo motors in packaging machines, labeling systems, and web handling equipment
  • Printing & Press Equipment -- Registration motors, impression cylinders, and feed drives
  • Semiconductor & Electronics -- Ultra-precise servo motors used in wafer handling and pick-and-place machines
  • Woodworking & Metalworking -- Positioning motors for saws, routers, benders, and punches

How Servo Motor Repair Works

Every servo repair follows a structured process to ensure quality, traceability, and your confidence in the result.

1

Intake & Documentation

We photograph and document nameplate data, connector types, shaft condition, and any visible damage. Your motor is tracked from the moment it arrives.

2

Diagnostic Testing

Insulation resistance, winding resistance, encoder/resolver output, bearing condition, and shaft runout are all measured and recorded before disassembly.

3

Repair & Rebuild

Based on findings, we perform the needed repairs -- rewinding, bearing replacement, encoder repair, shaft reconditioning, or magnet service. OEM-equivalent parts only.

4

Test & Ship

Full electrical and mechanical testing to verify the motor meets original specifications. Detailed test report included. Securely packaged and shipped back to you.

Servo Motor Repair FAQ

Standard servo motor repairs typically take 5-10 business days, depending on the scope of work and parts availability. If your servo needs a full rewind plus encoder replacement, it may take longer. Rush service is available for production-critical situations -- call us to discuss priority scheduling.
Yes. We work on servo motors from all major manufacturers including Fanuc, Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Yaskawa, Mitsubishi, Bosch Rexroth, ABB, Indramat, Kollmorgen, and many others. If you have a less common brand, call us -- we've likely seen it before and can help.
In most cases, yes. A new servo motor can cost $2,000 to $15,000+ depending on brand and size, plus lead times of 8-20 weeks. A quality repair is typically 40-60% of the cost of new and done in a fraction of the time. We also repair discontinued models that can't be replaced with an identical new unit.
Protect the shaft and connectors with caps or padding. Wrap the motor in anti-static material (servo motors have sensitive electronics). Use a sturdy box with at least 3 inches of foam or packing material on all sides. We can provide detailed packaging guidelines when you contact us -- just ask.
Yes. Encoder and feedback device issues are one of the most common servo motor problems. We repair and replace optical encoders, magnetic encoders, resolvers, and Hall effect sensors. We also verify proper commutation alignment after any encoder work to ensure correct motor operation.
This is where repair really shines. We regularly repair discontinued Indramat, older Fanuc, and legacy Siemens servo motors where a new replacement simply isn't available without retrofitting the entire drive system. Repair keeps your existing machine running without costly upgrades.
